The Silver Spring Church of God has a varied cultural background, but we try hard to keep the focus on praising God and God alone and to glorify Our Savior Jesus Christ in song, music and dance. Our music ranges from simple hymn singing and praise and worship selections all the way to contemporary songs such as He’s Able and Awesome. In between you might hear a Jamaican or Haitian or African styled song. And be ready for some hand clapping, foot stomping, tambourine shaking gospel from any number of Southern styles, especially South Carolina and Mississippi. Just where are we? The Silver Spring Church of God! Truly a “crossroads” church!

Pictured (L-R) Bro. William Johnson (“Bro. Bill”) is The Silver Spring Church of God’s primary gospel keyboard artist. He excels equally on the B-3 organ, acoustic piano and electronic keyboards, and is widely known for his artistry. Bro. Bill plays for Sunday Worship and accompanies all of our choirs. Evangelist Ernestine Greene (“Sis. Tina”) can be heard most Sundays either as soloist or with the Adult Choir, of which she is the Director. She has a long background of singing gospel music, having been taught by her mother and experienced in singing with many gospel groups from church to church. Sis. Tina also ministers extensively outside the church, and can be heard on her CD’s as well. Bro. Ross Lewchuk (Bro. Ross) is the Minister of Music for The Silver Spring Church of God. His job is to pray for the ministry; select the songs for the services as required by the Senior Pastor; coordinate the various groups, instrumentalists and soloists; procure lyrics and printed arrangements; maintain the sound system and instruments; and insure that the church complies with music copyright law. Bro. Ross also plays electronic keyboard and acoustic piano for praise and worship. He is a licensed Music Minister with The Church of God.
Our Praise & Worship Team leads the congregational singing each Sunday, mostly in “tried and true” praise and worship songs and also songs and hymns from The Church Hymnal (“The Red Hymnal”). The song leaders are Sis. Cynthia Izard, Bishop William Kilby, Bro. Ron Hanan and Sis. Michele Marshall. The Worship Team is drawn from faithful Church members who attend Sunday and one other weekly meeting, and have the ability to sing in tune.
Our Church Choir (“Adult Choir”) can be heard almost every Sunday featuring a variety of soloists, and they energize the entire service with sincere praises to God’s glory! Evangelist Greene invites all members of The Silver Spring Church of God to join the Choir.
Our Young Adults form a vital part of the Music Ministry of The Silver Spring Church of God, and as you would expect, they inject their special energy into the praise and worship. We encourage them to minister most Sundays, but you are most likely to catch them on fourth or fifth Sundays, which are their “official” ministry days. They are the ones responsible for introducing the newest songs.
